NEWS 4/10/07 - So we didn't update this 5rc news thing in so long. Sorry about that. Here's what we've been up to since September... Today we are releasing Xiu Xiu's 2 cd set of "Covers and Remixes." The "Covers" disc has Larsen, Oxbow, Sunset Rubdown, Marissa Nadler, Good For Cows, Kid 606, Why?, Her Space Holiday, and Devendra Banhart playing Xiu Xiu songs. The "Remixes" disc has Gold Chains, Xiu Xiu, Warbucks, Cherry Point, Son, This Song Is a Mess But So Am I, Kid 606, and Grouper remixing a Xiu Xiu song each, and To Live and Shave in La remixing the whole of Xiu Xiu's recent "The Air Force" album.
In February Barr's second album for 5rc, "Summary," was released. People have been really into it and really really into it's SUPER HIT JAM, "The Song is the Single." Feel free to listen to the mp3 or check out the video directed by Endless Friends below (or you can download the videohere if that is your thing)...
And you might have seen this already, but The New York Times wrote about Barr, in the same article as R.Kelly! Upset The Rhythm is bringing BARR out to the UK and some of Europe to play some shows in April and May. Check them out on the TOUR page. Also of note on the Barr tip is the ANP quarterly blog. ANP Quarterly is a free magazine Brenden does with Ed Templeton and Aaron Rose. The blog is really entertaining and totally worth checking out.
In January we released Deerhoof's new album"Friend Opportunity" and EVERYBODY has freaking out about it and talking about how good it is. Check out the mp3 for "+81" and the video for "The Perfect Me" directed by Erik Landmark and Peter Venuto. There's a bunch of other cool "Friend Opportunity" stuff that is totally worth checking out including the Electric Rainbow Machine e-card, cut and paste art by Satomi, and a Deehoof +81 "art opportunity" here. Deerhoof just finished a huge US tour and are playing shows in Australia and Europe this April. Good news #4
The Punks made a weird 33+45 rpm Lp for us called "Unanimous Bangers" it has songs at 33rpm, lock grooves, and songs at 45 rpm. So it's kind of like a 12" record with a 7" in the center. Of course, you can play the songs at both speeds if you want, or just download it off iTunes or napster or e-music or one of those things. The iTunes version has all of the songs at both speeds, the other download version just have the songs at regular speed. Does this make sense? Here's an mp3 for their "Untitled Pt.1" and here is an mp3 of "Up Dark Mountains," which is one of the 45 rpm songs from the lp playing at 33rpm. They also made a music video for "Air It Out" starring female body builder, Queen Bee that you can download here or watch on youtube... The Punks are doing a tour of the east coast in April. In other 5rc tour news- Wooden Wand is going on a tour with the Vanishing Voice (or as "WWVV" if you've been reading his myspace blog), The Robot Ate Me is on tour, Hella is fninishing up a US tour right now, and The No Neck Blues band are about to go to Europe. |
