Show Review in Flipside, July 1992

"Witchypoo is this all fem band from Portland spouting out songs about life from 16 year old mouths. It's happy want-to-be angry pop a la Moon Unit Zappa."

Record Review in Discombobulation #11 by Zep O'Ktep

"Witchypoo "The Groaning Machine" 7" - If there was ever a record bad enough to make you wish you were dead, this is it. Side A is a pseudo-industrial song. And side B, well, I smell like a hippy. "Love Power" comes complete with an organ and imbecilic lyrics, "Love Power/I'm talking about love power/ The power of a little flower/ Is gonna move you." Yuck!"

News in some unknown zine at some unknown time

"Witchypoo are like the long awaited return of New Wave with army helmets, a drum machine, revolving membership and apocalyptic de-constructionist anti-rock rock star guest performances...yeah"

Scene Report in MRR

"They (witchypoo) are a new wave band who play...songs. Or something like that."

Groaning machine was listed #14 in the top 20 7" releases of 1992 in the Rocket (jan. 93 issue)

an issue of jigsaw says:

"2. witchy poo slim is my friend and have never failed to impress me while on stage cuz he is a NEW WAVER. He didn't used to admit this but you know neither did I until about 3 mos. ago. Smart music for stupid people or stupid music for smart people, it varies night to night. Also, Slim understands go team."

Review in a zine starting with F (i cant read the xerox) in fall of 92

"Witchypoo "The Groaning Machine" b/w "You Belong to Me" & "Love Power" 7" (Kill Rock Stars) - The only "Groaning Machine" I could identify while listening to this was me. They repeat the phrase "Kill the Rock Stars" on that song, which is fine, as long as the carnage starts with Witchy Poo". Line up the boys from Bentley Tock behind them and you've got yourself an instant party. (KK)"

Conversation-style review in Mole #7

"WITCHYPOO (Kill Rock Stars) Q: Robotic, uh... machine induced. S: It's synth rock. Q: without being synthetic. S: It definitely rocks. They need to make more records. Q: I think my fantasies are pretty boring. I never had a fantasy about being captured by bad pirates. S: You'll have to practice that."

Crucial Variable #1

"Also on KRS you'll find the mysterious puff of gravity known as "Witchy-poo". They have a three song 7" out that features some callous and balmy rock mutiny. The hand-made cover's very special too!"

Show review in Pulp #3

"Witchypoo was neat! They have new songs. My favorite part was when Slims sister sang Atila the Hun, an old campfire song. I think there is something about them in the zine so read it."

My Seven Inches column by Joshua Mills in Strobe (nov-dec 95)

"Evidently Witchy Poo is a Pacific Northwest indie supergroup that has somehow managed to produce the most insipid and dull release I've heard in a long time. Tired? This contrived, way-past-trendy and universally boring outfit features KRS' Slim Moon and producer Steve Fisk in a masturbatory ode to... nothing."

Lollipop Magazine

"Witchy Poo Mixed Metaphor (Kill Rock Stars) - Twenty-one folks from the Olympia, WA scene contributed to this 7" (three drummers, two bassists, two guitarists, two random noise makers and 12 vocalists). The result is a glorious mish-mosh or indie-ish sounds, incoherent in the best sense of the word. J.B."

Scruffy #10

"Witchy Poo - Mixed Metaphor 7" I was really hoping KRS would send me the new unwound record, but they sent me this to review insteaad extra added bonus it features Sara and Vern of unwound! So slim moon tries to kill off the evils of american pop culture by mockin....i liked the paul simon cover but the techno stuff grossed me out. Very Calvin Johnson-ey sounding vocals. Slim Moon's mom graces the cover of this weird 7"! Check it out if you are into the whole UOA, Unwound, godheadSilo side of Kill Rock Stars the end!"

Singled out (in which zine?) by Jeff Rubba

"Witchy Poo Mixed Metaphor - This is boring, unlistenable techno-esque indie rock. Set phasers on "kill". Wait, the Paul Simon cover is mildly amusing. Switch down to "melt vinyl" and head for record shops that carry this monstrosity."

Cherrypop #2

"Wtichy Poo Mixed Metaphor 7" Kill Rock Stars - I walked into the record store and it was right in front and I was just oh-so-very happy. It's very cool, of course. Kind of a little weird, but nothing less than super cool. I never knew this before, but there's like a zillion witchy poo members! grovvvvvvy. yeah."

Comodity #4

"Witchy Poo Mixed Metaphor 7" Kill Rock Stars / Josh-A whole lotta art. I can't see this getting a very good review in very many places. It seems this is an inside joke, and I guess if enough people are in on it, it's worth pressing. I am not in on it so it sails right by me.
